Stellar Data Recovery Freezes, What Next Should I do?

 Modified on: April 16, 2020 |    7396 views

In this KB, you will learn why Stellar Data Recovery freezes and important tips & precautions to avoid such issues with the software.

#1. Check system compatibility

Visit the Stellar Data Recovery download page and ensure you are running the software on a compatible system satisfying the minimum hardware requirements.

#2. Disconnect USB Peripherals

Unplug all unnecessary USB peripherals such as printer, webcam, extra flash drives, card reader, controller, etc. as they might cause the software to freeze when it starts to save the recovered data at the destination. To ensure trouble-free data recovery, avoid using the system while the software is saving the data.

#3. Use Admin rights

Always run Stellar Data Recovery tool with Administrator Rights to grant full permissions. If sufficient permission is not granted, the software might freeze or stop working in between the recovery or save process.

#4. Check Connections

Ensure the hard drive or the storage media is firmly connected to the system where Stellar Data Recovery is installed.

#5. Check Storage Space

Ensure there’s enough storage space available on the destination drive or volume. If the size of the recovered data is more than the space available, it can cause the software to freeze or crash.

#6. Close All Running Apps

It’s a good practice to close all the running applications to avoid conflicts between the system resources and files. Also, avoid using the system while the software recovers your lost data.

#7. Perform Selective Recovery

a) From the main "Select What To Recover" screen go to the "Advanced Settings" tab.

b) Then go to the second icon on the "Adavanced Settings" tab.

c) From the avialable list of options select the file format you need to recover and then click "close" button.

d) Follow the on screen recovery steps then. The software will only scan for the files you had selected.

I just finish my long journey of data recovery of broken external i assumed which just take almost four month to complete the scanning. Yet the scanning result is not saved for future use. The problem is the program freeze and not responding when tried to preview a file (*.mp4 files). If i end the task will the search result still there? It would be such a hassle to wait another one-third of the year just to scan the drive.

Hi,it takes around 14+ hours to deep scan my 1tb hard drive. And application has crashed twice just after thr scan as as soon as i try to select folders to recover.

I tried disabling preview mode also. And application does not keep track record of deep scan results n either there is option i can save deep scan result

Should i again waste 14 hours on this

I lost my data as i made somewhat equivalent of factory reset of laptop.

It shouldn't be that hard to recover. But it seems like this application is not easy to use for individual user.
