While installing Windows, I accidentally formatted the drive and then installed Windows. How can I recover the formatted data with Stellar Data Recovery?
If you have formatted your drive and then installed Windows, it seems that you have lost all your volumes. You can recover all your lost volumes using Stellar Data Recovery. The partition that has been overwritten by operating system files can be only partially recovered. To recover data from formatted drive, follow the given procedure:
- Run Stellar Windows Data Recovery software and click on “All data” then next to recover data from formatted hard drive.
- After this you will Select Location option in software interface just choose the 'Can’t Find Drive' option and click on Scan button.
- In the 'Select Hard Drive to Search Lost Volumes' section, choose the hard drive to be scanned for lost logical volumes and click on Search option.
- Once the drive scan is finished, the software lists all the found volumes in the 'Partition Found' section. You can select the volumes from here and perform recovery using Scan button.
I performed a windows system recovery, without backing up my files. This appeared to return the laptop to its original factory set up.
After performing a Stellar advance scan, I can see many of my files listed, but when I click on the file - I only a series of letters and numbers appearing in the profile.
This is the same for documents and photos....
Is this correct? or should I see the document content?

File were showing you the hex information because of various factors like File is being damaged, Advance scan scans the drive and found files in partially raw situation, the file size were too big to be shown in preview section.
It would be great if you could take a screen shots of your scan results and mail it to us. You can also use different cloud hosting sites to host image and give us the link.
I'd recommend you to go for recovery for any selected set of files and see if the recovered files are in good condition. If so, you should recover all your files without any fear.

I don't know if I can post this question here but I would love if someone can help me out of this unrelated subject.
Well, I have an HDD drive that I have been using with my Macbook (OS journaled), after that I removed that drive and plug it in a windows, then formatted it (NTFS) and installed windows 10 on it. After a period of use I wanted to recover some files such images and docs using a data recovery software from that drive. Do I can recover files that were copied when I was using the drive on macbook under windows or I need to to put it on mac again to recover that data?

I am using window 7, my fan first developed a problem and later affected the hard disk. I have tried several times to boot the laptop but it continues to stand still whenever it gets 'starting windows'.
However, I removed the hard disk, cased it and tried assessing the files using another laptop, yet it refused to open. The last option is to format it by installing new windows (8 or 10). Can be able to recover my files after the installation of the new Windows.
Finally, isn't it a form of overwriting the disk when new softwares (including the recovery software) are installed on it before the recovery process?

Please follow the below steps to perform Can't Find drive option:
1. Run Stellar Data Recovery.
2. From Select What to Recover screen, select the type of data i.e. Everything, Documents, Folders & Emails or Multimedia Files, you want to recover.
3. Click Next.
4. On Recover From screen, select Can’t Find Drive from Connected Drives.
5. Click Scan.
Note: You can also click on ‘Click here‘ on the lower-left pane of the Recover From screen to begin the Can’t Find Drive process.
6. In the Select Hard Drive to Search Lost Partition window, all the hard drives connected to the system are listed with their details. From this window, choose a hard drive you want to scan for lost partitions and click Search. A scan for lost or deleted partitions will be performed in the selected disk or drive.
7. ‘Search Completed Successfully‘ message will appear showing the number of partitions found in the selected hard drive. If the desired partition is not visible run the Extensive Partition Search option given at the bottom-left of the screen.
8. All the partitions that are found will be listed in the Select Partition to Recover Data window.
9. From the list of partitions found, select any desired partition and click Scan to continue with the recovery process.
